The Spex Classic SuperHigh Contour is the deepest of the Spex Classic cushions. A gel-foam ischial well sits in a trough 80 to 100 mm deep, which immerses the pelvis and hips and holds them square, with contouring pads under the thighs that can be added, removed or stacked to manage abduction, adduction and leg length difference. Cushion height is 65 mm in the 12 inch width rising to 75 mm at 18 to 20 inches, and the safe working load is 90 kg up to 13 inches wide and 160 kg from 14 inches wide.
Removable lateral rigidisers stiffen the sides so the shape holds under load. The dual-layer cover has breathable air mesh sides and an inner incontinence cover, and a 16 x 16 inch cushion weighs 2.0 kg. Sizes 16 inches and wider add a coccyx channel.

Who it suits
A client with high tone, asymmetrical pelvic posture, windswept legs or a strong extensor thrust who needs the seat itself to hold the pelvis and thighs, for example a client with cerebral palsy or advanced MS in a tilt-in-space or custom chair. It suits clients who cannot tolerate external thigh supports. A client who transfers independently or self-propels with active hip movement is better on the Spex Classic High Contour, which has a shallower 50 mm trough.
Good to know
- Order by seat width and depth in inches; custom sizes are available outside the standard range
- Set up and pad adjustment should be done by the prescribing therapist
