A single step can stop a person leaving the house. Ramps give wheelchair, scooter and walker users safe access over thresholds, steps and porches. This range includes threshold ramps, portable folding and telescopic ramps, and modular ramp systems that build a permanent or semi permanent path to the door.

Assess the rise to be covered, the space available for the run, and who will use the ramp, as gradient requirements differ for self propelled, powered and attendant pushed users. Check the safe working load, surface grip in wet weather, edge protection and whether the ramp needs to move with the person. Portable ramps suit visiting and car access; modular ramps suit daily home use.

Common questions

Portable or fixed ramp?

A portable ramp folds and travels with the person, suited to single steps, cars and short rises. A fixed or modular ramp is installed for a permanent access route and is designed to the correct gradient for the height. Our Home Modifications team measures and installs fixed ramps.

How long does a ramp need to be?

Gradient is set by the rise: the higher the step, the longer the ramp. As a guide, a wheelchair ramp for a 300 mm rise needs several metres. Tell us the rise and how the person will use it and we will recommend a length.

Can ramps be hired?

Yes. Portable ramps and some modular sections are available for hire for short term needs.

How are ramps funded?

We quote in the format the funder needs. NDIS (self, plan or agency managed), Home Care Packages and Support at Home, DVA and private purchase are all common. Send us the OT report or script and we do the paperwork.
