Rails, ramps, bathrooms and the bigger jobs, planned with your OT and built by our own licensed building crew. One team from the home assessment to the final handover, Tasmania-wide.
What we do
Equipment only goes so far. Sometimes the safest answer is a change to the home itself: a rail where a hand naturally reaches, a ramp that removes a step, a bathroom that a shower commode can actually get into. Thrive holds a builder’s licence, so minor and major home modifications are done by our own Building and Projects team, not handed off to a contractor who has never met the person.
Minor modifications

- Grab rails and hand rails, inside and out.
- Threshold ramps, portable ramps and short fixed ramps.
- Hand-held showers, raised toilet seats and over-toilet frames fitted to suit.
- Bed sticks, ceiling hoist track and wall-mounted transfer aids installed and load tested.
- Small adjustments: door handles, lever taps, step lights, anti-slip treatments.
Major modifications

- Bathroom modifications: level-access showers, wider doorways, relocated fixtures and wet-area floors.
- Ramps and platform lifts for external access.
- Widened doorways and corridors for wheelchair access.
- Ceiling hoist installations, including structural checks and track design.
- Larger structural work planned around the person’s long-term needs.
Bathrooms we have built
Level entry, room to turn, rails where they are actually needed, and finishes that look like the rest of the house rather than a hospital.

How it works
- Assessment. Your occupational therapist identifies what is needed. If there is no OT involved yet, we can suggest one.
- Site visit and scope. Our building team visits the home, measures, and prepares a written scope with the OT’s recommendations built in.
- Quote for the funder. We quote in the format the funding body needs, with the supporting detail they ask for.
- Build. Our own licensed crew does the work, with the equipment side handled by the same company so nothing falls between two suppliers.
- Handover. We check the finished work with the person and the OT, and stay responsible for it afterwards.
Funding
Home modifications can be funded through NDIS (minor and complex home modifications), Home Care Packages and Support at Home, and DVA (through Allianz). We work with the funder’s process and the OT’s report so the request is complete the first time. Private quotes are also available.
For referrers
Send us the OT report and the client’s contact details and we will arrange the site visit. Because Thrive supplies the equipment as well, we can quote the modification and the equipment together, for example a ceiling hoist and its track, or a bathroom modification and the shower commode that has to fit in it.
Ask about a home modification
Tell us about the home and what is needed. A member of the Building and Projects team will call you back within one business day.
Thrive Lifecare holds a builder’s licence for the work described on this page. Work outside that scope is quoted through a licensed partner and we tell you before it starts.
