About this product

The Homecraft Long Handled Sponge is a bathing aid for clients who cannot reach their feet, lower legs or back. An oval foam sponge sits on a plastic-coated flexible wire shaft that bends to the angle the client needs and stays there, so a stiff hip or shoulder does not stop them washing independently. It comes in two lengths, 380 mm and 610 mm.

The built-up grey plastic handle is easier to hold with a weak or arthritic grip. The 380 mm sponge weighs 75 g and the 610 mm sponge weighs 100 g, so neither adds load to a tired arm. Rinse and squeeze out after each use and allow to dry.

Key features

  • Two lengths: 380 mm for the lower legs and back, 610 mm for the feet from a seated position
  • Plastic-coated wire shaft bends and holds its shape
  • Oval foam sponge head
  • Built-up grey plastic handle for a low-effort grip
  • Weighs 75 g (380 mm) or 100 g (610 mm)
  • Homecraft, distributed in Australia by Performance Health

Who it suits

A client with restricted hip, knee or shoulder movement after joint replacement, with arthritis, or with back pain who can still hold a light handle. Choose the 610 mm length for a client who washes their feet while seated on a shower stool. A client with very poor grip may do better with a wash mitt or a sponge with a strap.

Good to know

  • No assembly, ready to use
  • Foam heads wear with use and the sponge is treated as a personal consumable
  • Pair with a shower stool or bath board for seated washing
