About this product

The Medline HeelMedix is a padded heel protector boot that lifts the heel off the bed surface so there is no pressure on the heel at all. The open end leaves the heel visible for skin checks and airflow, and the stabiliser wedge attaches to the side of the boot to hold the leg in neutral and prevent it rolling into medial or lateral rotation. It is sized by calf circumference: petite 125 to 280 mm, standard 280 to 485 mm and extra large 485 to 635 mm.

The boot is nylon, latex free and machine washable, and comes with a mesh laundry bag so it stays with its wedge through the wash. Colour-coded exit holes on each side let DVT compression tubing pass through without pressure on the leg.

Key features

  • Fully offloads the heel: no contact with the mattress
  • Stabiliser wedge prevents medial and lateral rotation of the leg
  • Open heel for airflow and wound monitoring without removing the boot
  • Three sizes by calf circumference: 125 to 280 mm, 280 to 485 mm, 485 to 635 mm
  • Colour-coded straps and DVT tubing exit ports on both sides
  • Low-friction inner lining to reduce shear, treated with an antimicrobial finish
  • Nylon, latex free, machine washable with mesh bag included

Who it suits

A client who is bed-bound or spends long periods supine and cannot reposition their own legs: after a stroke, hip fracture, in palliative care, or with diabetic neuropathy where the heel is already at risk. The wedge version is for the client whose leg falls outward or inward when relaxed. For a client who is mobile and only needs heel protection in a chair, a simple heel cushion or gel pad is lighter and easier to put on and take off.

Good to know

  • Sold as a single boot with wedge; order two for both legs
  • Measure the calf at its widest point to choose the size
  • Not a walking boot: remove before the client stands or transfers
  • Replacement wedges are available separately
