Shear Comfort medical sheepskin overlays are made from real sheep’s wool on a natural leather backing. The wool pile spreads load across a wider area and reduces shear at the skin surface, which is why sheepskin is still used for clients at risk of pressure injury or already managing early skin breakdown.
Wool holds up to 30 per cent of its own weight in water vapour before it feels damp, and traps air between the fibres. In practice that means the surface stays drier and closer to a stable temperature than a synthetic cover, which matters for clients who perspire or spend long periods seated.
The overlays are made to Australian Standard AS4480.1 for medical sheepskins, with wool woven at 1900 g per square metre. They are machine washable up to 80 degrees Celsius using a wool wash product, and are warranted for up to 50 washes when the care instructions are followed.
