The DHG EasyGlide is a transfer board for seated, sideways transfers where the client can bear some weight and shuffle, or where a carer assists the slide. The top surface is smooth low-friction polyethylene and the underside carries two strips of anti-slip tape so the board stays put on the wheelchair seat and the bed. It comes in four sizes: 450 x 200 mm, 600 x 250 mm, 600 x 330 mm and 750 x 330 mm, at 5 to 6 mm thick.
The two 330 mm wide boards (600 and 750 mm long) are three-part boards with fold-down long sides, so the board can be shaped over a wheelchair wheel and armrest. All sizes have rounded corners and wipe clean with 70 percent ethanol or 45 percent isopropanol.
Key features
- Smooth low-friction polyethylene top surface
- Double anti-slip tape on the underside
- Rounded corners for easy positioning and removal
- Four sizes: 450 x 200, 600 x 250, 600 x 330 and 750 x 330 mm
- 600 x 330 and 750 x 330 mm boards fold in three parts to clear a wheelchair wheel
- 5 mm thick (6 mm for the 750 mm board)
Who it suits
A client with reasonable sitting balance and some upper limb strength who transfers sideways, for example a paraplegic wheelchair user or a client with weak legs after a stroke, and carers who want to reduce lifting during a bed to chair move. Pair it with a slide sheet or a Thrive slide cushion for a client who cannot lift their pelvis at all. For a client who cannot sit unsupported, a standing or full hoist transfer is safer.
Good to know
- Short boards suit small gaps such as wheelchair to bed; the 750 mm board bridges a wider gap such as wheelchair to car seat
- Choose the folding 330 mm boards for a wheelchair with a fixed armrest or a large rear wheel
- Not for use as a standing surface
- Disinfect with 70 percent ethanol or 45 percent isopropanol after use
