About this product

The U-Step 2 from In-Step Mobility Products is a walking stabiliser and Parkinson’s walker for people with Parkinson’s, ataxia and other conditions where a standard rollator runs away or gives too little support. The braking works in reverse: the wheels are locked at rest and only roll while the user squeezes the levers, so the frame stops the moment the hands relax. The U-shaped base wraps around the user on three sides, a wider base of support than a conventional four wheel walker. Safe working load is 161 kg and the frame weighs 9.5 kg.

This version has the padded fold up seat at 559 mm and a removable basket. It does not include the laser and sound cueing module, which In-Step sells as a separate add-on.

Key features

  • Reverse braking: squeeze to go, release to stop
  • U-shaped frame gives support on three sides
  • Spring loaded rear wheels and adjustable braking resistance
  • Padded fold up seat at 559 mm, removable basket included
  • Handle height adjusts from 711 mm to 978 mm
  • Folds to 1067 x 584 x 254 mm for the car

Who it suits

People with Parkinson’s disease, cerebellar ataxia, MS or post stroke balance loss who have had falls or near falls with a standard walker, and who can squeeze both brake levers to release the wheels. Physiotherapists often prescribe it where the client pushes a rollator too far ahead or cannot control it on a slope. The standard size fits users about 1550 mm to 1855 mm tall.
