The Shear Comfort Cushion-It is a medical-grade sheepskin seat pad that goes over an existing chair seat or cushion. The high-density wool is woven at 1900 gsm on a fabric-backed base, and adjustable hook-and-loop straps hold it to the seat or back of a wheelchair, armchair, office chair or car seat. It measures 46 x 55 cm.
Wool absorbs up to 30 per cent of its weight in water vapour without feeling damp, and the pile traps air so heat and moisture dissipate rather than build up against a vinyl cover. It is machine washable at up to 80 degrees, and the maker guarantees 50 washes when the care instructions are followed.

Who it suits
A client who sits for long periods and has skin that gets hot, damp or sore against a vinyl or synthetic seat, and who needs a surface that can be washed at high temperature for infection control. It reduces friction and shear at the skin surface but is not a pressure redistribution cushion on its own; a client at medium or high pressure injury risk needs a foam, gel or air cushion underneath it.
