The Homecraft Curved Transfer Board is a seated transfer board for clients who move sideways from a wheelchair to a bed, car seat or toilet. The curve lets the board go around a wheelchair wheel and follow the arc of the transfer rather than a straight line. It is 700 mm long and 370 mm wide, narrowing to 255 mm in the middle, and the safe working load is 152 kg.
The reinforced plastic resists chipping and splintering, is waterproof and wipes clean between users. Non-slip pads underneath hold the board on the two surfaces. It weighs about 2.4 kg.
Key features
- 700 x 370 mm, tapering to 255 mm at the centre
- Safe working load 152 kg
- Curved to clear a wheelchair wheel and follow the transfer path
- Reinforced plastic, waterproof and MRI safe
- Non-slip pads on the underside
- Smooth top for clothed transfers
Who it suits
A client with reasonable sitting balance and upper body strength who cannot stand to transfer but can shuffle sideways, for example a wheelchair user with paraplegia or a client after a stroke with a stronger side. The curve makes it useful for car transfers where the seat is offset from the wheelchair. A client who cannot bear weight through the arms or lift their bottom needs a hoist or a sit-to-stand aid rather than a board.
Good to know
- Remove the wheelchair armrest on the transfer side and lock the brakes before use
- Contains natural rubber latex in the grip pads
- For lying transfers between bed and trolley, see the SallyBoard lateral transfer board
