The Etac Aktiv reacher is designed so the user squeezes with the natural direction of the hand rather than against it. The handle is angled and has an index finger support, which improves control when picking up small items.
The jaws are rubber coated and can be set in two positions, horizontal or vertical, so the user can pick up items flat on a surface or standing upright. A magnet in the handle helps retrieve small metal objects such as keys.
It is useful for dressing, picking items off the floor, and reaching into high or low cupboards. It is often issued as part of a set after hip replacement, alongside a long handled shoe horn and a sock aid.
