The Helio C2 is Motion Composites’ carbon fibre folding wheelchair. The unibody frame and moulded carbon cross brace are made from high tensile T700 carbon fibre, which gives a frame that weighs 5.31 kg without wheels, armrests, cushion, anti-tippers and footrests, and 9.98 kg in a functional 16 x 16 inch configuration. Seat widths run from 355 to 560 mm (14 to 22 in), seat depths from 355 to 510 mm, and the standard chair carries 120 kg, or 159 kg with the HD kit.
Every Helio C2 is built to the prescriber’s script: front seat height from 330 to 545 mm, rear from 320 to 515 mm, back height 230 to 535 mm, front frame angle 60 to 90 degrees, back angle 85 to 110 degrees, camber 0, 3 or 6 degrees and a centre of gravity adjustment of 25 to 100 mm. Frame and handrim colours are chosen on the order form.

Who it suits
An active self-propeller who needs a folding chair for car transport but does not want the weight and flex of an aluminium folder: a client with paraplegia, an amputee, or an older independent user with limited upper limb strength who has to lift the chair into a boot. The wide range of seat heights and the adjustable centre of gravity make it a good fit for a client with a precise seating prescription. A client who transfers the chair rarely and wants maximum propulsion efficiency may be better served by a rigid frame such as the Apex, and a client who is pushed by a carer most of the time does not need this level of specification.
Good to know
- Built to order from the script; allow time for manufacture and shipping from Canada
- Cushion, back support and many accessories are scripted separately
- The HD kit is required for users over 120 kg
- We measure and script the chair with the prescribing therapist at a trial appointment
