The SallyBoard Curved is a lateral patient transfer board that bridges the gap between two surfaces, such as a bed and a trolley or a bed and a shower trolley, so a supine client can be slid across on a slide sheet rather than lifted. It is made from lightweight HDPE plastic with a smooth top and curved edges, and two large grip pads underneath hold it on the mattress. Both sizes are 58 cm wide and 5 mm thick: the medium is 150 cm long and the large is 180 cm long.
The board flexes enough to cope with a small difference in height between the two surfaces, is radiolucent so it can stay in place for X-ray, and is registered with the TGA. The HDPE surface wipes down between clients and does not chip or splinter.
Key features
- HDPE plastic, 5 mm thick, chip and splinter resistant
- Medium 150 x 58 cm, large 180 x 58 cm
- Two large grip pads underneath to stop the board sliding
- Curved edges and smooth top for use with a slide sheet
- Flexes to suit a small height difference between surfaces
- Radiolucent and TGA registered
Who it suits
A client who cannot assist with a bed-to-trolley transfer and is moved lying down by two or more carers, in a hospital, aged care or home setting where a trolley, shower trolley or second bed is used. Choose the large board for a taller client or where the full body length needs support across the gap. For a client who can sit up and transfer sideways under their own effort, a short curved seated transfer board such as the Homecraft board is the right product instead.
Good to know
- Use with a slide sheet on top; the board itself is not a low-friction surface
- Lock both surfaces and match their heights as closely as possible before the transfer
- Wipe clean with standard detergent and disinfectant
