The Silvalea In-Situ Recline is a hammock-style full-body sling with a built-in head support and a pommel strap on the leg edge, giving a reclined position in the hoist. It is applied with the client lying down, and once the transfer is finished it can be left under the client, subject to a risk assessment. Safe working load is 220 kg, and the medium size fits a shoulder circumference of 96 to 108 cm and a C7 to back-of-knee length of 120 to 128 cm.
The Silva-Superfine Plus fabric is a 100 per cent polyester 3D spacer material that is soft against the skin and lets air through, which matters for a sling that stays in place. It washes at 71 degrees and tumble dries on low heat. Each sling carries a care label with the size, safe working load, date of manufacture and serial number, plus a service label for inspection records.

Who it suits
A client who is a passive transfer, has poor head and trunk control, and cannot tolerate repeated sling fitting, for example in palliative care, advanced neurological conditions or after a stroke with limited sitting balance. It also suits amputee presentations because of the closed-leg design. A client who sits well and transfers several times a day is usually better served by a standard divided-leg sling that is removed after each transfer.
Good to know
- Loop attachment fits loop-style spreader bars; check the hoist before ordering, or ask about the clip version
- Leaving a sling in situ needs a documented risk assessment; check the skin regularly
- Size by shoulder circumference and C7 to back of knee using the Silvalea sizing guide; we can measure at a trial
- Inspect the sling before every use and after every wash, as the service label requires
