Slide gloves are worn over the hands and give the carer a low-friction surface to work with. They let a hand slide under and along a client without dragging on skin or clothing, which cuts shear during repositioning.
The outer surface is a low-friction silicone coating. The inside is non-slip so the glove stays on the hand while force is applied. They are made from silicone-coated polyurethane.
Common uses include repositioning a client already on a slide sheet, easing sleeves and trouser legs over limbs as a dressing aid, and settling a client onto a cushion where the therapist needs to control a bony prominence without pulling the skin. They are also used alongside a hoist to reduce shear when positioning a sling.
