Bedside Commodes

A Malsch home care bed made up with bedding, side rails down

A bedside commode brings the toilet to the bedroom for people who cannot reach the bathroom safely at night or during recovery. Options include static commode chairs, folding commodes, adjustable height models, commodes with padded seats and those that double as an over toilet aid or shower chair.

Consider how the person will transfer onto the commode, whether they need armrests to push up, and where it will sit in the bedroom in relation to the bed. Seat height should match the bed height for side transfers. Look at pan capacity, lids and ease of emptying for the carer, and confirm the safe working load.

Thrive Lifecare supplies bedside commodes for purchase and hire across Tasmania, quotes for NDIS, Home Care Packages and Support at Home, DVA or private funding, and delivers Tasmania-wide. Book a trial to check the fit with the person and their room.
