Air Transfer

A carer helping a man stand from his wheelchair with a sit-to-stand hoist

Air assisted transfer systems move a person laterally, from bed to trolley or bed to bed, on a cushion of air. The inflatable mattress reduces friction so carers can slide the person with far less force, reducing shear on the skin and strain on the carer’s back.

Air transfer suits people who cannot assist with repositioning, those with fragile skin or pain, and bariatric care where manual sliding is unsafe. Consider the mattress size relative to the bed, the safe working load, the power supply for the blower, and whether the mattress stays under the person or is removed after each transfer. Staff training is important for safe use.

Thrive Lifecare supplies air transfer systems to hospitals, aged care and home care across Tasmania, with demonstrations, quotes for NDIS, Home Care Packages and Support at Home, DVA or private purchase, and delivery Tasmania-wide. Book a trial to see the system in your setting.
