The Icare Seat Cushion is a plain memory foam cushion for a client who sits for long periods and needs more comfort than a chair pad gives. The high density visco-elastic core moulds to the shape of the pelvis rather than pushing back, so weight is spread over a larger area. It comes in 50 mm and 100 mm thicknesses and three footprints: 400 x 400, 450 x 450 and 450 x 500 mm.
The zip-off cover is machine washable and the cushion is light enough to carry between the lounge, the car and a wheelchair. The 100 mm cushion also raises seat height, which can make standing up from a low chair easier.

Who it suits
A client at low pressure injury risk who sits most of the day in a recliner or dining chair, has a bony pelvis or has lost muscle bulk, and a client who needs a little extra seat height. The 450 x 500 mm size suits a deep armchair. It is not a prescribed pressure care cushion: a client with a current or healed pressure injury, or a full-time wheelchair user, should be assessed for a clinical cushion such as a Spex, Roho or Vicair.
Good to know
- Measure the seat pan before choosing a size; a cushion that overhangs will tip
- The 100 mm cushion adds 100 mm of seat height and may affect footplate and armrest fit in a wheelchair
- Cover only is washable; wipe the foam core
