The Malsch Impulse 400 is a low care bed built to look like furniture. The platform goes down to 250 mm from the floor for fall management and up to 820 mm for care, with a four-section mattress platform that profiles the backrest and knee break electrically. Trendelenburg and reverse tilt are on the handset, and the platform is a metal mesh that lifts out for cleaning. Safe working load is 225 kg.
The bed weighs about 110 kg and comes in single (900 x 2000 mm) and king single (1070 x 2000 mm) platform sizes. The Bardolino Oak surround has a choice of V450 or V480 head and foot boards; the frame-only option lets the client use their own bed ends. Frame warranty is 5 years, with 2 years on motors and electronics.

Who it suits
A client with a falls history, dementia or nocturnal restlessness who needs a bed that goes to the floor, and who or whose family wants the bedroom to look like a bedroom. The 250 mm floor height with a crash mat replaces rails for many clients. The king single suits a larger client or one who moves a lot in bed. If the client is hoisted with a mobile hoist, check the under-bed clearance; and for a bariatric client above 225 kg a heavy duty bed is needed.
