The Rifton Pacer is a gait trainer designed for children and adults with disabilities who need help with weight bearing, weight shifting and stepping. It is set up as an anterior (front) or posterior (rear) walker, and every support is adjustable without tools so a therapist can change the configuration during a session.
The Dynamic Pacer upper frame allows 32 to 50 mm of vertical and horizontal movement, so the pelvis and trunk can shift as they would in natural walking rather than being held rigid. A standard (non-dynamic) upper frame is also available. The base comes in a standard indoor version with 100 to 140 mm castors, or a utility base with 200 mm front and 290 mm rear wheels for outdoor surfaces and playgrounds.

Who it suits
Children and adults with cerebral palsy, spina bifida, acquired brain injury, muscular dystrophy or developmental delay who can bear some weight through their legs but cannot walk safely on their own. Schools, therapy clinics and families use the Pacer for daily walking practice, and the same frame grows through several years by swapping prompts and moving up a size when needed.
Good to know
- Sizing is by elbow height, not age; we measure the person before recommending a size
- Prompts and supports are ordered separately, so a Pacer is configured to the person rather than sold as a fixed package
- Trial units are available through our paediatric team, at home, school or the clinic
- The Rifton E-Pacer, a hybrid of the Pacer and a sit-to-stand lift, is an alternative for larger users who need help getting to standing
