The Spex Stylo is the mechanism that carries a Spex head support pad on a wheelchair back. It comes in three models set by horizontal forward reach: the Stylo 130 (130 mm reach, 570 g), the Stylo 160 (160 mm reach, 915 g) and the Stylo 260 (260 mm reach, 990 g). All three offer up to 135 to 160 mm of vertical travel and sideways adjustment, and the 160 and 260 add spherical hinge joints that swing through 360 degrees in the frontal plane and 180 degrees in the sagittal plane.
Every adjustment uses one 5 mm hex key. The machined aluminium stem has two flat edges so it cannot rotate in the clamp. The 160 and 260 are available as a flip-back version that swings the pad clear for transfers, and as a short stem version for low back heights. The head pad is chosen separately.

Who it suits
A client who needs their head positioned and supported in a manual or power wheelchair, from mild neck weakness through to high tone and asymmetry where the pad must sit forward and off centre. Pick the 130 for a client who only needs a light posterior support close to the backrest, and the 260 where the head sits well forward of the back, for example with a kyphotic posture or a deep back cushion. If the client needs a head pad that moves with a dynamic backrest, look at a dynamic head support instead.
Good to know
- Mechanism only: choose a Spex head pad (Circle, Comfort, Contour or Lateral) to suit
- Fits Spex back supports and grid-base shells; check the mount on other backs before ordering
- Stylo 130 is rated for a user weight of 136 kg; a heavy-duty compatibility kit is available
- Some fitting and set-up by a seating technician is expected
