The Spex Vigour Standard Contour is a foam wheelchair cushion with a 30 mm deep contour. Layers of high-resilience foam are shaped with a gel-foam ischial well under the pelvis and a thigh ramp in front to hold the pelvis back in the seat. Thickness runs from 50 mm (2 in) in the smallest sizes to 75 mm (3 in) in the largest, and the safe working load is 90 kg for sizes up to 15 inches wide and 160 kg from 16 inches up.
A 16 x 16 inch cushion weighs 1.4 kg. It comes with a breathable dual-layer spacer fabric outer cover and an inner incontinence cover. Replacement covers are available in nine colours.

Who it suits
A client who sits for long periods and needs moderate pressure care with some lateral stability, for example an older client in a manual wheelchair who tends to slide forward. Spex rates it 3 out of 5 for pressure care, positioning and lateral stability. A client with existing skin damage or a high pressure risk should be assessed for an air or hybrid cushion instead, and a client needing deeper pelvic containment should look at the Vigour High Contour with its 50 mm well.
Good to know
- Order by seat width and depth in inches; measure the wheelchair seat pan, not the client
- A rigidiser board, 5 degree wedge and phone bag are optional accessories
- Covers are machine washable; follow the Spex user manual for the foam
- No cushion cures pressure injuries: it is one part of a pressure care plan
