Bathrooms are where many people first need a hand at home. Wet floors, low toilets and stepping over a bath edge all add risk, and the right equipment lets someone shower and use the toilet safely with as little help as possible. When choosing bathroom equipment in Tasmania, think about the room itself: hob or level entry shower, door widths, toilet height and where the person will transfer from. Check the safe working load and seat width against the user, and confirm how it will be funded through NDIS, Home Care Packages and Support at Home, DVA or private purchase.

Common questions

What is the safest way to shower when standing is difficult?

A shower chair or stool gives a stable seat under the water. If the person cannot walk into the shower, a mobile shower commode lets a carer wheel them in and use the toilet in the same chair. An OT can advise on the bathroom layout and what will fit.

Will a mobile shower commode fit our bathroom?

It depends on door widths, the shower entry and turning space. Send us measurements or photos and we will advise, or arrange a home visit. Our Home Modifications team can also change the bathroom if needed.

Can bathroom equipment be trialled?

Yes. Book a trial and we will arrange it at home or in our Northern Tasmania or Southern Tasmania showroom, with a consultant who can adjust the equipment to the person. There is no obligation.

How is bathroom equipment funded?

We quote in the format the funder needs. NDIS (self, plan or agency managed), Home Care Packages and Support at Home, DVA and private purchase are all common. Send us the OT report or script and we do the paperwork.
