Mobile shower commodes combine a wheeled chair, a shower seat and a toilet in one piece of equipment. They let a person be transferred once, then wheeled to the shower and over the toilet, which reduces handling and protects privacy. When prescribing a mobile shower commode, measure the person’s hip width and thigh length, note the toilet height and clearance for an over toilet position, and check doorways and the shower hob or step. Match the safe working load to the user and think about who will be pushing, whether the person self propels, and how much postural support they need.
