When choosing a walking aid in Tasmania, assess balance, upper limb strength, gait pattern, endurance and the environments the person moves through, including steps, carpet and outdoor surfaces. Set the handle height to the wrist crease with the arm relaxed. Check the safe working load, the weight the person can lift into a car and whether the aid folds.

Common questions

How do I choose between a walking frame, a walker with wheels and a rollator?

A walking frame with no wheels gives the most support and suits someone who needs to bear weight through their arms and move one step at a time. A wheeled walker or rollator suits someone who walks steadily but tires or loses balance; it keeps moving with them and, with a seat, gives a place to rest. If balance is the main concern, a physiotherapist or OT assessment is worth doing before choosing.

Can we trial a walker before buying?

Yes. Book a trial and we will arrange it at home or in our Northern Tasmania or Southern Tasmania showroom, with a consultant who can adjust the equipment to the person. There is no obligation.

Does the walker come assembled and adjusted?

Yes. We deliver assembled, set the handle height for the person and show them how to use the brakes, fold the frame and use the seat. Tasmania-wide, including regional areas.

What funding can be used for walking aids?

We quote in the format the funder needs. NDIS (self, plan or agency managed), Home Care Packages and Support at Home, DVA and private purchase are all common. Send us the OT report or script and we do the paperwork.
